Kratie Provincial Police Faces Serious Case For Abusing Two Minors

Kratie: The National Committee for the Protection of Children of the National Council of Cambodia for Children (NCCC) has strongly condemns the unacceptable misconduct and inhumane acts committed by Tep Huy, a 42-year-old Kratie provincial police, after he arrested two 12-year old girls, Trak Theara and Vorn Pisey, who lives in Kanhchor Village, Chhlong District, Kratie Province.

The minors filed a complaint on Wednesday which was given a priority and urgency by General Sao Sokha, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the National Gendarmerie, General Sao Sokha for legal action. This case has also caught the attention of the lawyers of Royal Government who volunteered to defend this case in the sense of seeking justice for society.

The NCDD National Child Protection Committee, as well as the general public, is deeply shocked and saddened by the plight of these two poor girls who have suffered atrocities, inhuman and degrading treatment. Serious violations of children's rights, especially the right to protection, which Cambodia has ratified and enshrined in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

In connection with this inhumane violence, the National Committee for the Protection of Children (NCCP), the coordinating body for child rights work, calls on all levels of authorities, especially the judiciary, to continue to prosecute cases of aggravated violence to take action according to the legal procedures in force and punish the perpetrators very strictly so that this evil act does not happen in our society again. Provincial offices must be actively involved in investigation of child cases, monitoring and provision of practical support to child victims of abuse, violence and exploitation.
